Dear TLTA members,

I hope your 2017 is off to a great start. Now that the Texas Legislature is in session, we have a lot of work to do.

We are actively engaged in fighting SB 372, which was filed back in December, and we expect more legislation with similar goals to be filed soon. If passed, SB 372 would not just severely alter the way our industry operates – it would also severely alter our customers' access to title insurance. (Read our recent oped in the Austin Business Journal.) This makes it more important than ever to stay on top of news about this session. I recommend exploring the materials in both the Texas Title Insurance Works Toolbox and TexasTitleWorks.com, TLTA's new website that will be linked to the upcoming social media campaign.

I also recommend that you become familiar with TLTA's affirmative agenda; you can read about it, as well as other issues we anticipate facing during this session, in Dateline Austin's Jan. 25 Legislative Update and stay up to date by reading future Legislative Updates in Dateline Austin.

However, being informed is not enough – you also have to put your knowledge into action and get involved in the process if we're going to protect our industry. We're all in this together. That’s why I'm going to Day at the Capitol in Austin next week. If you're still debating whether or not to go, trust me, you need to go! Commit to supporting your industry by registering today.

Another way to support your industry during a challenging legislative session is by contributing to the TLTAPAC. Contribution reminder letters were mailed out recently; if you received one and haven't yet answered, or if you haven't made your commitment at all, I hope you will answer the call and contribute. If you have already contributed, thank you – your support IS making a difference.

We are facing a lot of major challenges right now in this industry, which is why your participation and engagement matter more than ever. If you have suggestions on how TLTA can help keep you informed, we're always listening.

Thanks for your support, and I'll see you in Austin at Day at the Capitol!
Sincerely,

James H. Dudley, IV
