Dear TLTA Member,
I
hope all of you had a chance to rest and relax with family and
friends during the holidays. The New Year provides a great
opportunity to mark our progress on major issues and redouble our
efforts in the coming year.
As you know the Rulemaking phase of the 2004 Biennial Hearing took
place on December 15. Testimony was provided by a number of
witnesses representing TLTA and other title industry groups, as well
as the Texas Association of Builders, Texas Association of Realtors,
Office of Public Insurance Counsel, Texas Department of Insurance
Staff and members of the public. I would like to thank the members
of the Rates, Rules and Forms Committee and the Board of Directors for their hard work in
preparing for the hearing, as well as those members who served as
witnesses at the hearing. A decision has not yet been rendered by the Commissioner,
but we will keep you informed of any developments or changes as soon
as they occur. Also, the Rate hearing was postponed until after the
Legislative Session that begins January 11.
When the 79th
Texas Legislature convenes on
Jan. 11, TLTA’s legislative/lobbying team will be on hand, representing
the title industry on a number of important issues. Stay up-to-date
by going to
www.tlta.com on a regular basis during the session, and contact
Mindy Carr
at
mindy@tlta.com if you have questions or need additional
information.
TLTA seminars continue to draw record participation with a 24%
increase in attendance during the past year. We have increased our
programming by adding 4 new seminars and have expanded the program
to include teleconferences that cover hot industry issues. TLTA is
proud to set the standard for excellence in education for title
industry professionals and we look forward to developing more
challenging and diverse educational opportunities in 2005.
We are also in full swing
preparing for this year’s Annual Conference to be held June 9-11 at
the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. Don't miss this unique
opportunity to network with industry associates, attend informative
workshops and meetings. Join us for a great line-up of social events
while you relax and enjoy the activities and amenities available at
this fabulous new resort. As an added bonus, we’ve reduced
registration fees. A full member registration that cost $400 last
year will now cost $295
–
a savings of
26%!
As you compile your list of New Year’s resolutions, make becoming
more involved in TLTA one of them. You’ll be amazed at the benefits
you’ll realize, both professionally and personally. On behalf of TLTA's leadership and staff, I would like to wish you a happy and
prosperous New Year. I look forward to
more challenges and successes for TLTA in 2005.
Sincerest regards,

Terry Grantham
TLTA President
