Dear
TLTA Member,
This
fall is proving to be very busy for TLTA with a number of important
industry issues requiring our time and attention. I want to take
this opportunity to give you an update on the items we are working
on at this time.
First of all,
on a very positive note, I am pleased to report that the TLTA Board
of Directors voted to provide all agent and underwriter members a
15% refund on their 2004-2005 dues payment. Main contacts at each
company were notified of this opportunity in September and most
members have already taken advantage of the benefit of this refund.
We are able to offer this refund as a result of our efforts to
reduce expenses and establish sound reserve policies. What does this
mean for you? It means we are working to make every single dues
dollar count and at the same time we are continuing to provide more
member benefits and services in the areas of legislative and
regulatory representation, education and communication.
Representing you at TDI is one of
the most important member benefits we provide, and we will be doing
so again this December as the 2004 Texas Title Insurance Biennial
Hearing commences. The Rule hearing is scheduled for December 15,
2004 and the Rate hearing for December 31, 2004. Additionally, TDI
has scheduled a special hearing on P-53 to be held on November 2.
The TLTA Board met on October 20 and formulated positions on agenda
items for these hearings.

I urge you to go to the TLTA
web site and carefully review these agenda items in order to be
informed prior to the Rule and Rate
hearing.
On the
education front we have numerous seminars coming up in November. On
November 4 a new seminar entitled Selling Title Insurance
will be presented in Austin at the Marriott at the Capitol. On Nov.
16 in Dallas is the second presentation of our
Right Rules, Correct
Calculations Workshop.
Don 't forget to register for the Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Seminar
to be held November 17 & 18 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Click
here to register for any of these seminars and make sure your space
is reserved!
I’ll be traveling to several seminars and
meetings this fall and I hope to have the opportunity to meet many
of you at that time. In the meantime, our staff and board continue
their efforts to represent you and your business interests. If we
can be of assistance, or if you have any questions, please feel free
to contact me or a TLTA staff member.
Warmest regards,

Terry Grantham
TLTA President
