Texas Housing Affordability Makes Comeback  News Release No. 63, May 2003
reprinted with permission by The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University

College Station – Texas homes were more affordable in first quarter 2003, but hiding behind the good news lurks possible indications of economic weakness.

The combination of low interest rates and stable home prices made Texas homes more affordable, says Jack C. Harris, research economist with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. A homebuyer buying the median-priced home could expect a monthly payment 6 percent less than what would have been required a year ago.

There was a sea of blue at the Texas Land Title Association final regional seminar of the season as over forty members of the Edwards Abstract and Title Co. management team and staff attended the South Texas Regional seminar in April. We appreciate their support, along with all the other title companies that participated in the seminar. The regional seminar held at
South Padre Island addressed key issues facing title operations and provided updates on recent regulatory changes. Branch managers, the legal division, examiners, escrow officers, abstractors, policy department personnel, escrow secretaries and others in the company attended the seminar.

The West Texas Regional Seminar will be held on Sept. 13, 2003 at Texas Tech University and Simulcast to: Midland, Advanced Technology Center El Paso, UT El Paso College of Health Sciences.

Watch your e-mail for additional details on the 2003-2004 TLTA Regional Seminars and other educational programs! Click here to check the dates for seminars to be held in your area.
