TLTA Sponsors Texas Historical Commission Real Places 2018 Conference

TLTA was proud to be a title sponsor of the Texas Historical Commission's Real Places 2018 Conference as part of our ongoing support of the THC stewardship program. Since 2005, TLTA has been proud to support the program, which includes annual training workshops for county judges and maintenance workers to address issues like inspecting the exterior, identifying mechanical malfunctions, and budgeting for maintenance.

In addition to the stewardship program workshop, Real Places 2018 provided the opportunity for preservationists and tourism professionals across the state to learn and share ideas for how to continue improving their communities.

Pentagon Thwarts 36 Million Email Breach Attempts Daily

Defense One | Jan. 12, 2018
Every day, the Defense Department thwarts 36 million emails full of malware, viruses and phishing schemes from hackers, terrorists and foreign adversaries trying to gain unauthorized access to military systems.

Extrapolated over one year, the Pentagon receives 13 billion such emails, which are automatically scanned for suspicious content and other telltale signatures and "dumped on the floor" before they ever reach an inbox, according to David Bennett, director of operations for the Defense Information Systems Agency.

TLTA's Cyber Fraud Resources Can Help Title Agents, Real Estate Professionals and Customers Avoid Becoming Victims

While it's interesting to see that the Pentagon is having success thwarting cyber fraud attacks on military systems, it provides a cautionary tale about just how prevalent these schemes are. Don't let your company or your customers become victims of these attacks. The TLTA Cyber Fraud Resources web page has links to flyers, handouts and a video that can help your company and your clients conduct safe transactions. In addition, you'll find tips and hints you can provide to real estate professionals.

In case you missed it, TLTA hosted a workshop called "Scams, Schemes and Your Security" this past December that will be available On-Demand soon.

Why People Really Quit Their Jobs

Harvard Business Review | Jan. 11, 2018
People don't quit a job, the saying goes — they quit a boss. We've heard it so many times that when we started tracking why employees leave Facebook, all bets were on managers. But our engagement survey results told a different story: When we wanted to keep people and they left anyway, it wasn't because of their manager...at least not in the way we expected.

Of course, people are more likely to jump ship when they have a horrible boss. But we've spent years working to select and develop great managers at Facebook, and most of our respondents said they were happy with theirs. The decision to exit was because of the work. They left when their job wasn't enjoyable, their strengths weren't being used, and they weren't growing in their careers.

At Facebook, people don't quit a boss — they quit a job. And who's responsible for what that job is like? Managers.
