TLTA Leadership Meets With ALTA Regarding Their Forms Licensing Fee

In a recent Breaking News, we notified you about a new forms licensing fee being instituted by the American Land Title Association (ALTA). As outlined in ALTA’s announcement, beginning in 2010, they plan to charge a forms licensing fee to all title companies that are not members of ALTA. It is our understanding that ALTA sent out individual letters last week with more details on this program, and your office has probably received that correspondence. We urge you to review these materials carefully.

The TLTA Board is studying this issue and how it affects Texas. Representatives from ALTA, including CEO Kurt Pfotenhauer, attended the TLTA Board meeting in Austin last week to explain this program and to address questions and concerns from our leadership. We will continue our discussion with the ALTA leadership this week during their Annual Conference in Florida where TLTA President Mark Greek and Executive Vice President Leslie Midgley will be in attendance.

We will continue to keep you informed about the status of our discussions with ALTA. In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, you may want to consider consulting with your legal counsel as well.
