On Nov. 12, 2008, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development released its new Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) rule. The new GFE (mortgage disclosure) and HUD-1 (settlement) forms developed under this rule were required beginning on Jan. 1, 2010, which you may read more about below. On July 21, 2011, RESPA became administered and enforced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
