The goal of this course is to familiarize title insurance professionals with statutes, regulations and business practices relating to retention of documents and other records.
Upon completion of the course, attendees should:
Have a general understanding of Texas statutes relating to retention of title insurance documentation and retention of electronic records.
- Understand that Texas also has promulgated rules regarding document retention and electronic records.
- Be aware of the specific rules that require retention of specific documents
- Have an understanding of the Texas Minimum Standards and Specific Areas for audit that relate to document retention
- Clearly understand there are also Federal retention requirements in regard to certain escrow responsibilities.
- Be aware of minimum guidelines that may be used as a starting point for determining what records to add to a permanent archive from both a title and an escrow perspective.
- Have a better understanding of practical considerations for archiving and storing title and escrow files.
- Be aware of issues to be considered when a title agent decides to “go paperless.”
- Have an opportunity to learn about the possible components of an electronic document management system.
