Ethics: Walking the Tight Rope of Neutrality as an Escrow Officer
Today’s escrow officers and managers feel the stress of walking the neutrality tight rope when they operate as escrow officer and neutral 3rd parties to both sides of a real estate transaction.
The goal of this course is to familiarize attorneys, settlement agents, and title insurance professionals with industry-defined roles of escrow officers (versus other agents in a transaction) from contract to policy issuance. Learn what challenges you may encounter along the way and how to better respond ethically and within TDI guidelines.
Upon completion of the course, an attendee should:
- Have a better understanding of the duties and roles of an escrow officer (as defined in Texas Insurance Code 2501.006) versus realtors’ role in each transaction and in the representation of their clients (as defined in TREC-Canons of Professional Ethics and Conduct- Chapter 531.1-531.3).
- Understand the rules and procedures for processing and closing a transaction within the perimeters of an escrow officer – neutral 3rd party.
- Be aware of the types of objections and ethical situations you may encounter from the parties of an insured transaction.
- Be better prepared to address ethical issues surrounding your closings using the rules and responses covered.
