A Message From the President

Although it has only been a few weeks since my last President's message, there are several recent developments within TLTA that I wanted to report. First, our annual audit has been completed with outstanding results. We have decreased overall expenses 21% from last year, and we continue to target specific areas of the budget for further reduction. I realize the recent decision to decrease title insurance rates by 6% has resulted in many of you taking steps to reduce your business expenses. We want you to know we're reducing expenses right along with you during these challenging times. We will also be preparing an annual report in the next few months in order for you to get a clearer picture of where your dues dollars are spent. I can assure you, it is a priority of the TLTA leadership and staff to make sure every dollar of your dues is spent wisely on member services and benefits.

As the October 9 Board of Directors meeting concluded I was notified that the finishing touches are being made to the new TLTA logo. The development of the new logo has been a priority since I took office last June, and I'm very proud to announce that you will soon see a new and updated look on all printed and published items produced by TLTA. We will be rolling out the new logo over the next few months on our letterhead, signs, Web site, brochures, etc. I'm very excited about the updated look of the new logo, and I'm confident you will be pleased with the result. For a sneak preview of the new logo, click here http://www.tlta.com/images/newlogo101802.pdf

A total of 325 title industry professionals registered for the Austin Regional Seminar held October 8 & 9. We are also experiencing a great response to "Policy Training A to Z", a new seminar to be held in Austin in November. Due to the overwhelming response, we will also offer this seminar in Dallas and Houston in the coming months. For more information check the calendar section of the TLTA Web site. As I mentioned last month, we are already making plans for this year's Annual Conference to be held at The Woodlands Resort in June. Don't miss this opportunity to relax, rejuvenate, and learn at the same time. Mark your calendars for June 6-8, 2003 and Rediscover the Nature of Your Business!

As I prepare to travel to the ALTA Annual Conference in Florida this week I've created a laundry list of the many issues and initiatives we are working on at TLTA. Not surprisingly, many of these concerns are shared by other title associations around the country. I hope to be able to meet with other state association presidents to talk about the problems and concerns that face the title industry today, and to participate in mapping out a strategy that can be implemented at the state and national level.

As I stated in my first message in July, all segments of the title insurance industry must work together on issues toward a common goal of supporting and protecting the industry. Your input and support are critical to ensuring our livelihood. As always, if you have questions please feel free to contact me or one of the TLTA staff at any time.

Best regards,

Jack Rattikin, III
