Texas Foreclosure Rate Lower Than U.S.

The delinquency rate for mortgage loans on one-to-four-unit residential properties decreased to a seasonally adjusted rate of 6.96 percent of all loans outstanding at the end of the second quarter of 2013, the lowest level since mid-2008. The delinquency rate dropped 29 basis points from the previous quarter, and 62 basis points from one year ago, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) National Delinquency Survey. According to the report, Texas compared favorably to the United States in the percentage of home loans in foreclosure at the end of second quarter 2013. The percentage of loans on which foreclosure actions were started during the second quarter was 0.48 percent in Texas, compared with 0.64 percent nationally.
TLTA Board Meets for Summer Planning SessionTLTA Board of Directors
The TLTA Board of Directors and Committee Chairs met last month in Austin for their annual planning session. The meeting included an orientation, leadership training and strategic planning for the new year. Past President Mark Greek (2009-10) shared insights on how volunteer leaders can best work together to serve the association, and current TLTA President Joe Grealish laid out his goals for the new year, which include increasing TLTA's membership to further strengthen our industry's voice. TLTA Federal Lobbyist Jim Hyland also provided the Board with an update on the proposed rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to integrate the current TIL, GFE and HUD-1 Settlement Statement into a set of combined forms, as well as Congress' plans to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. TLTA is proud to announce the 2013 Alex H. Halff Leadership Academy will take place Nov. 4-5 in Austin. The two-day Academy, sponsored by First American Title Insurance Company, is designed to develop and grow young title professionals for the future of our industry. Space is limited to 50 participants, and the deadline to submit applications is Aug. 23. Nominations will be reviewed and applicants will be notified by Sept. 1. A letter of recommendation will also need to be provided as noted in the application.
This Academy will provide tools to help young professionals grow in their company by honing their leadership skills, expanding their industry knowledge, acquainting them with important industry information and allowing them to create a professional network. ALTA Awards Two Texas Title Agents With Professional Designation
The American Land Title Association (ALTA) recently announced it has awarded two TLTA Certified professionals with the ALTA National Title Professional (NTP) designation. Shari K. Foster, CTIA, of Lockhart and John P. Bruce, CTIA, of Cedar Park, were awarded with the designation that recognizes land title professionals who demonstrate the knowledge, experience and dedication essential to the safe and efficient transfer of real property.
